Jill Buckingham
Biography
Jill Buckingham was born in Buckinghamshire.
At an early age Jill was always drawing people and creating a likeness of her chosen subjects. In the early 1970’s she studied Graphic Design at Northampton School of Art.
As a young woman, Jill set off to travel and work in countries such as Canada, the United States of America, Mexico, Crete and Jersey. She spent six months travelling overland to India. Whilst abroad she received and painted many commissions from locals and tourists alike.
Upon her return to Britain in 1981, she began to paint portraits full time and exhibited her work at Craft Fairs and Agricultural Shows for many years.
Throughout the 1990’s Jill became interested in voluntary work with people and her own personal development, so she trained in counselling as an Art Therapist. In 1995 she studied for a State Registered, Post Graduate Diploma in Art Therapy at the University of Hertfordshire in Hatfield.
In 1997 Jill received her first major commission to paint the High Sheriff of Bedfordshire. Since then she has painted portraits of a number of High Sheriffs throughout the country.
